(title shamefully stolen from someone else)
So it’s NO to SOPA day – I realise a lot of people in the UK and Europe won’t know (or care) what SOPA is, but really, you should care at least!
SOPA allows the US government the ability to close down or censor websites *just on an accusation* – there doesn’t need to be any hard proof of <whatever the infringement is meant to be> – just the *accusation*.
There’s a whole bunch of websites who have “gone black” today to show their opposition to SOPA, including Wikipedia, Reddit, Google (not quite in the same way) and many others. Here’s a list of who’s doing what: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2399009,00.asp
I’m not claiming to have looked in to the whole deal behind SOPA as it doesn’t affect us in the UK as much as those in the US, but it’s not good none-the-less. Here’s Wikipedia’s page (the only one still active) giving more information about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Learn_more
Now that Office 2010 has hit RTM and ISOs are starting to appear on the internet, which version of Office should you install, x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit)? Read more…
OK, so not too long ago, I ranted that Office 2010 (specifically Outlook 2010) was crap. Well, I’m going to have to eat my words!
I’ve now got hold of the RTM (or very-very-close-to-RTM) build of Office 2010 that’s floating around. The one that requires retail product keys to install / activate. Yes *that* close to RTM. And I’ve got to admit, having installed and activated it on 2 machines now, that it’s actually quite good!
After a lot of playing, Outlook (which is the real killer app. for me; the one I have open more than any other app.) is now almost as quick as it used to be in the Office 2003 days. And it can FINALLY start up in an IMAP inbox rather than in a PST or Exchange mailbox. So that’s my main requirement sorted!
Oh, and while I won’t quite reveal how to get the RTM build to activate… the solution starts about page 17 of this forum thread (look out for my username):
So the *official* MS beta of Office 2010 has been released… the bloody thing (especially Outlook) is slower than the tech preview releases, and ONE HELL OF A LOT slower than Office 2007 (itself no speed-demon) !
What have MS done with it to make it sooooo crap? (and yes, I’ve done a clean install yada yada yada)
